Our Team

Michael Zhao
Michael is a neurologist at Harvard Medical School. His Ph.D research project is about cellular localization and downregulation of brain 3-mercaptopyruvate sulfurtransferase after acute stroke. His postdoc study is on astrocytic regulation on neuronal synapse recovery, and also on screen of small molecules as a new treatment strategy of neurodegenerative diseases. He and his friend Dr. Jiaxu Hong started Longwood Biology Inc., aiming developing effective and low toxic anti-neurodegenerative drugs from small molecules.

Josh Hong
Josh is a corneal specialist in the Ophthalmology Department. His clinical and scientific interests include ocular surface disorders and lacrimal duct diseases. He completed his BS, graduate, and medical education at Fudan University. He performed his residency at the Shanghai EENT hospital, followed by a clinical fellowship in Cornea and External Diseases. He holds a Master degree of Public Administration from Fudan University and was involved in a two-year Research Fellow program in the lab of Prof. Reza Dana. He has authored over 70 publications, including JOPH, Medicine, AJO, IOVS, BJO, and Cornea.

Alireza Mashaghi
Dr. Mashaghi is a physicist and an immunologist and a professor of systems pharmacology and analytical biosciences at Leiden University. He has a fellowship in neurology as well as a fellowship in ophthalmology from Harvard Medical School. He is well known for his single molecule studies of protein aggregation and development of label-free sensing platforms for biomedical applications. His current research involves, among others, metabolomic analysis of neurodegenerative diseases for improved mechanistic understanding, diagnostics and pharmacotherapy.
